Week 4- Moon Unit

Hey there homeschool mamas! Welcome to week 4 of our Kindergarten Homeschool! I am so excited to show you what we've done and how it's going every week! If you're curious about our curriculum, my son, or our homeschool room, check out this post!

This week was our Moon Unit! Kyle is off Monday's, so before we started our lessons this week, we headed to the Children's Museum for our first official field trip! I knew they had an exhibit about space and it would be a good introduction. Honestly, I wasn't sure how Liam would do there. The one time we went to that exhibit, it was very crowded and he didn't seem interested!

We went and it was a bit more crowded than we would have liked. It's still summer break and most of our schools start back next week. We ended up doing a few new exhibits and a few of his favorites before we tried the Space one. Once we got there, he was all about it!

One of the "astronauts" in the exhibit took him around, talked to him, and taught him some facts. Of course, he wasn't totally listening and paying attention, but he enjoyed his time with her. He even dressed up like an astronaut.

He really enjoyed our "Phases of the Moon" activity. (Yes, Oreos are technically vegan!) Our lessons taught us 4 phases: full, crescent, half, and new. He had them down by the second day!

He loved reenacting the Little Bear story. We also watched the Little Bear episode on youtube.

He loved making a spaceship, space helmet, and creation mobile.

His Biblical Concept this week was, "I am the light of the world." Not so different from last week, so it was very easy for him to memorize, but he can still differentiate between the two.

Books we read this week were: The Moon (With facts and realistic images), Little Bear, If You Decide to Go to the Moon, Happy Birthday, Moon (he really loved this one!), and The Moon Book (he enjoyed this one too!)

He really wanted to see the stars. Not something he gets to do very often having a 7 pm bedtime. We let him stay up, layed outside together, and look at the stars and moon. He even knew which phase is was in! Smart little fellow!

I can really see how much he is learning; finding what works and what doesn't; and what interests him.

I am so overwhelmed with how proud of him I am! He is flying right by my worries and expectations I had!
